IRISH OAKS The Irish Oaks is a Group 1 race for 3 year old fillies, contested each July, over 1 mile 4 furlongs at The Curragh. It was first run in June 1895 over a mile, starting at the Madrid Post, when won by Sapling (SR 1828). In 1915 it was extended to 1 mile 4 furlongs to match the distance of the Irish Derby, starting at the Howth Post. Since its inception there have been 14 joint winners, up to 2018, of the Epsom Oaks and Irish Oaks. They are in 1948 Masaka (SR 1952), 1971 Altesse Royale (SR 1954), 1975 Juliette Marny (SR 1909), 1978 Fair Salinia (SR 1928), 1981 Blue Wind (SR 1951), 1987 Unite (SR 1939), 1988 Diminuendo (SR 1956), 1992 User Friendly (SR 1991), 1999 Ramruma (SR 1910), 2004 Ouija Board (SR 1942), 2006 Alexandrova (SR 1913), 2009 Sariska (SR 1929), 2010 Snow Fairy (SR 1849) and in 2017 Enable (SR 2078).
